Quote of the Night; August 12th, 2008

Wise words from President Bush, in regards to the recent Russian invasion of Georgia:

Russia has invaded a sovereign neighbouring state…. Such an action is unacceptable in the 21st century…. We have no doubts about it. This is a deliberate attempt to destroy an entire country and change the regime.

The lesson, everybody, is that in the 21st century, it is unacceptable to destroy a country and change the regime (I wonder if anyone told him).

  1. Bullshit. It’s a bunch of phrases spliced together out of context to make it sound like Bush is describing Iraq. Half of that wasn’t even said by Bush. The regime change stuff was Sikharulidze.

Oh right, well: “Russia has invaded a sovereign neighbouring state and threatens a democratic government elected by its people. Such an action is unacceptable in the 21st century.”

There is the unedited quote. The only difference I can surmise is that in this version he makes reference to democracy. I am sure you’re eager to point out that Hussein was a ruthless dictator- but I think it is reasonably clear that that wasn’t the reason we went in (WMD’s! Al Qaeda! 9/11! Iran!….wait….Iraq!).
