Government Watch List

August 23, 2008 · Leave a Comment

Man I love this country: a 13-year veteran of the Armed Forces and current commerical pilot has been placed on the terror watch list…..for converting to Islam. If he isn’t taken off of the list by Sept. 1st, he will lose his job. He is suing.

Scherfen served in the U.S. military for 13 years, as an Army infantryman in the first Gulf War and then as a helicopter pilot in the National Guard. After receiving an honorable discharge, he was hired as a pilot by Colgan Air Inc., a regional airline operating in the Northeast and Texas.

In April, Colgan informed Scherfen that he was on a government list and would be suspended from his job. He was told he faced termination on September 1 unless he was able to clear his name.

But Scherfen, of Schuylkill Haven, Pennsylvania, has been unable to do so and said he fears that it could mean he has no future as a pilot.

“My entire career depends on me getting off this list,” he said. “I probably won’t be able to get a job anywhere else in the world having this mark that I’m on this list.”

Care of CNN.

“Safety” at all cost.

The Pilot himself: “The problem with what the government is doing is that they really don’t care about innocent casualties.”

I cannot wait until this administration disappears (and, if we’re lucky, gets charged with war crimes by countries with chutzpa).

A quick one this morning as I am going on vacation in a few minutes.

1) Mets get seven shutout innings from Santana (that’s 16 innings in a row of donuts from the Ace) in defeating the Astros. Yanks win (win?!) over the Orioles on the back of a great night from Abreu and a four-out save from Mariano.

2) Obama selects Hillary Clinton for veep.

3) Just seeing if you’re paying attention…. Anyway, I haven’t read this article yet, but it promises to be a goodie: An analysis of Obama’s economic policies in the Magazine written by David Leonhardt, the Economic Scene columnist for the Times.

4) The Oracle from Omaha has bad news for us about the economy… And I’m off to Cape May!

My Bet Is Biden

August 23, 2008 · 1 Comment

Care of ABC News:

The United States Secret Service has dispatched a protective detail to assume the immediate protection of Sen. Joseph Biden, D-Del., a source tells ABC News, indicating in all likelihood that Biden has been officially notified that Sen. Barack Obama, D-Illinois, has selected him to be his running mate.

Sources also tell ABC News that two others said to be finalists for the position of Obama’s running mate — Sen. Evan Bayh, D-Ind., and Virginia Gov Tim Kaine — have been told they have not been selected for the vice presidential slot.

We are awaiting official notification.
